About YourBestCreditBuilder
Free, honest help for building credit from scratch or rebuilding it after a rough patch — with card picks ranked by the numbers, not by who pays most.
Why this site exists
YourBestCreditBuilder is part of the YourBest network, alongside YourBestCards, YourBestSavings and YourBestLoanRates. Our card comparisons kept reaching people who couldn’t use them yet — because their credit wasn’t there. This site is for them.
The usual answer is “hire a credit repair company.” But almost everything those companies do — disputing errors, requesting validation, writing goodwill letters, keeping utilization low — you can do yourself, for free, once someone explains it clearly. That’s what our guides do.
Ranked by math
Our credit-building card rankings come from the same card database and scoring as YourBestCards, maintained by ByTheMath. Cards are scored on what matters when your credit is thin or damaged, with fees counting most, then perks, rewards and any welcome offer; each card’s deposit, bureau reporting and upgrade path are shown alongside. Our methodology explains every formula.
No issuer can pay to be included in or ranked higher in our rankings. We may earn a commission from some card links, and some pages show ads — that’s how the site stays free. It never changes the rankings. Read the full disclosure →
Who writes it
Our guides and rankings are written and reviewed by the YourBest Editorial Team. Read how we work in our editorial policy, and how to report a mistake in our corrections policy.
What we will always do
- Keep it free. We don’t sell credit repair, audits or subscriptions, and we never ask for advance fees.
- No score promises. No one can guarantee a specific score increase. We give you the strategy; your results depend on your reports and your follow-through.
- Tell you the truth. Including when a popular tactic — like the “609 loophole” — doesn’t work.
Graduating
Once you reach 670+, you qualify for most mainstream rewards cards. That’s where our sister site YourBestCards.com takes over, with rankings and calculators for choosing your first rewards card.
