Editorial Policy
How we decide what to cover, how we check it, and why advertisers and partners never shape a ranking or a guide.
Our independence
YourBestCreditBuilder.com is published by ByTheMath and written by the YourBest Editorial Team. The site may show ads and some links may earn a commission (see the affiliate disclosure). Neither changes our content: no card issuer, lender or credit-builder company can pay to be included in a ranking, to rank higher, or to be left out, and partner links are added to pages only after the ranking is fixed.
What we cover
We cover the steps that actually build or rebuild credit: getting a first account, paying on time, keeping utilization low, fixing errors on your reports and dealing with collections. We rank products only where the numbers can be compared fairly, today secured and credit-builder cards and credit-builder loans. We include consumer products available to US residents that publish their terms online. We don’t cover credit repair services that charge advance fees.
How rankings are made
Every product in a ranking is scored by the same formula, and pages are ordered by that score. The formulas, tie-breakers and data fields are described on our methodology page. Editors don’t hand-place products, and a product’s affiliate status is not an input.
Accuracy and sourcing
- Product facts (fees, deposits, APRs, rewards, program terms) come from the issuer’s or lender’s own site and are stored in our shared database.
- Our scanner re-checks tracked product pages daily; detected changes are reviewed by a person before they’re applied.
- Ranking pages show the date their data was pulled. Where our data doesn’t state a fact, we show a dash rather than guess.
- Guides about your rights cite the law or the regulator’s guidance they rely on, and say plainly when a popular tactic (like the “609 loophole”) doesn’t work.
What we won’t say
We never promise a specific score, approval or timeline. Credit scores depend on your full credit reports, and approval is always the issuer’s decision. Our content is educational information, not legal or financial advice.
Corrections
We correct factual errors as soon as we confirm them, normally within one business day. Email contact@bythemath.com with the subject “Correction request”. Material corrections are listed on our corrections page.
